Luce, key technology partner in RetechFOR: The digitisation of the forestry sector in Castile and León gets underway

We at Luce have good news. We recently participated in the presentation day (kickoff) in Valladolid for the RetechFOR project, and we are frankly proud to announce that we are a key piece in this historic initiative.

RetechFOR (Technological and Territorial Network for Forest Monitoring and the Reduction of Environmental Disasters) is not just another project. It is the largest commitment to technological innovation in the forestry sector in Spain, a collaborative effort between Castilla y León and the Canary Islands with a global budget of 28.45 million euros.

The objective is ambitious and necessary: to promote the digital and ecological transformation of the forestry sector.

Preventing fires and boosting the bioeconomy

In a context marked by the need for sustainable management and the fight against forest fires, RetechFOR will use advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and data intelligence to create an advanced monitoring system. This will allow not only more effective fire prevention and management, but also the promotion of the forest bioeconomy, precision forestry, and the digitalization of the industry.

For Castilla y León, which will manage 16.6 million euros of the total, this project represents a qualitative leap. The initiative is coordinated by the CESEFOR Foundation and brings together a powerful consortium of technology centers, universities, and specialized companies.

Luce’s Role in RetechFOR

Within this strategic group, our team at Luce will assume a fundamental responsibility: the development of the project’s data platform and an associated application.

Our work will focus on creating the digital infrastructure that will allow the unification, processing, management, and sharing of the large volume of data generated. This data platform is essential so that the administration and the different actors can gain in-depth knowledge of the real problems affecting our environment, allowing management solutions and strategies to be based on precise and updated information.

We are proud to contribute our technological expertise to a project with such a positive and direct impact on the protection of our natural heritage and the development of the bioeconomy in Castilla y León.

An ecosystem of innovation

The success of RetechFOR will be based on collaboration. Under the coordination of CESEFOR, we will work side by side with the rest of the group’s partners: ITCL Centro Tecnológico, AIR Institute, Fundación CARTIF, Itagra, CTME, Vexiza, the University of Valladolid (UVa), and the University of León.

Impulse and financing

This project, promoted by the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning of the Junta de Castilla y León , and financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU, represents a key initiative for the digital and ecological transformation of the forestry sector in our community.

The kickoff in Valladolid was just the starting point. At Luce, we are ready to face this exciting challenge and apply our specialization in Data & AI to help build a more sustainable and secure future for our forests.
