CidiFOR 2026: First Forest Digitalization Congress
The 1st International Congress on Forest Digitalization (CIDIFOR), recently held in Burgos, has marked a milestone in the technological strategy for the conservation of our natural resources. At Luce IT, we have experienced these days with enthusiasm, not only because of our active participation, but also for being witnesses to the commitment of an entire sector to modernize and collaborate under the framework of the RetechFOR project.
RetechFOR: Transforming knowledge into useful tools
Within the RetechFOR initiative, the objective is clear: to equip those who care for our forests with the best digital tools. During the congress, we were able to delve into how we are collaborating so that artificial intelligence and data management become daily allies of the forest technician.
Forest-GPT: Forest knowledge within reach of a question
One of the great challenges of the sector is the dispersion and density of technical and regulatory information. Forest-GPT was born to solve this. It is an intelligent assistant based on generative AI (RAG architecture) that we have developed to facilitate access to the entire forest documentary corpus of Castilla y León.
-
- What does it provide? The technician can ask complex questions in natural language —for example, about management plans or safety distances in reforestation— and receive an immediate response based strictly on official documents.
-
- Context and Precision: It is not an AI that “invents” (hallucinations), but rather searches for the exact fragment in the regulations and presents it with its bibliographic reference, saving hours of manual searching and guaranteeing legal certainty in decision-making.
Digital Health: A technological shield against pests
The health of our forests cannot wait for data to reach an office. At CIDIFOR we shared the advances in the digitalization of the Forest Health system, a project that modernizes the complete cycle of surveillance of pests and diseases.
-
- Real-time data capture: We have worked on solutions that allow field agents to register phytosanitary alerts from their mobile device, even in mountain areas without coverage (offline capability).
-
- From alert to action: By centralizing all this information on a digital platform, paper delays are eliminated. This allows for the generation of almost instantaneous affection maps, facilitating the Forest Health Center to act with surgical speed wherever an infection focus is detected.
An ecosystem of collaboration: Datagia and SINFO
Although RetechFOR is the central framework of this congress, the work of Luce IT in the forest sector is broad and diverse. Our participation in projects such as Datagia and SINFO reinforces our conviction that data must be the backbone of public management. In these initiatives, we collaborate to build robust data infrastructures and information systems that allow for forest governance based on evidence and transparency.
The value of sharing
CIDIFOR has demonstrated that digitalization is not a process that an entity can do alone. As Javier Pérez Ácimas highlighted in his presentation on the “silent revolution” of AI, success resides in the collaboration between administrations and technological partners.
The forest sector is ready for the leap. Not only to improve efficiency, but to protect what matters most: our natural heritage. In Luce IT, we remain committed to this path, providing our experience in data and AI so that the future of our forests is more digital and resilient every day.
At Luce IT we are passionate about being an active part of this transformation, collaborating in projects such as RetechFOR, Datagia or SINFO to convert innovation into real protection for our forests. Do you want to know how we apply this experience in other fields? Contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What was the main objective of the CIDIFOR congress in Burgos?
The objective was to gather experts, companies, and administrations to share advances in forest digitalization, promote collaboration, and establish technological strategies for sustainable management and fire prevention within the framework of the RetechFOR project. - In what other forest projects does Luce IT participate besides RetechFOR?
Luce IT is an active collaborator in the sector, participating in key initiatives such as Datagia and SINFO, focused on data governance and the improvement of forest information systems for more efficient management. - What is Forest-GPT and why is it relevant?
It is a tool developed in collaboration with Luce IT that uses AI so that forest technicians can make complex inquiries about health and forest regulations in natural language, speeding up processes that previously took days. - How does digitalization influence fire prevention?
Digitalization allows processing data from satellites and sensors to detect water stress or anomalies in vegetation before they are visible, allowing for a much faster and more precise preventive action.
