Innovation in Active and Intelligent Food Packaging

IntelActivAI (Innovation in Active and Intelligent Food Packaging) is an ambitious industrial research project whose main objective is to develop a new generation of intelligent and sustainable packaging that revolutionizes the fresh food manufacturing industry.

The project integrates cutting-edge technologies such as intelligent biosensors integrated into labels (SmartLabels), active antimicrobial coatings, and Artificial Intelligence, aiming to reduce food waste, extend the shelf life of products, and maximize the recyclability of packaging.

Luce IT’s role in IntelActivAI

We bring our extensive experience in advanced data analytics, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence to act as the technological brain of the solution.

Predictive Models: We design algorithms capable of interpreting in real time the biochemical information provided by the SmartLabels to monitor the condition of the food.
Dynamic and Optimized Management: We implement AI solutions to optimize food industrial processes, significantly reducing economic losses generated by waste.
Real-Time Safety: We virtualize biochemical signals to offer rapid responses that guarantee integrity and food safety throughout the value chain.

The consortium, led by Luce IT and formed by specialized technological partners such as Darwin Bioprospecting Excellence, Oscillum, and Encapsulae, unites multidisciplinary capabilities to transform the food industry towards a safer, more efficient, and sustainable model.

IntelActivAI Research Partners

To achieve the goals of this ambitious project, prestigious institutions such as CSIC, the University of Salamanca (USAL), and the University of Valencia (UV) contribute their scientific knowledge and expertise. The participation of these research organizations represents a strategic subcontracting of 9.29% of the total budget, supporting the development of a solution with a real impact on both the region and the sector.

Project funded by the European Union

This project is funded by the Center for the Development of Technology and Innovation, E.P.E. (CDTI) under the Science and Innovation Missions 2024 program. Furthermore, the initiative is framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, receiving financial backing from the European Union through NextGenerationEU funds, as well as institutional support from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
