The CDTI and the European Union have approved funding for Tex4Clear
Funding has just been officially approved for the Tex4Clear project, a spectacular initiative in which we will participate, and which has a very clear goal: to make the textile industry much cleaner, safer, and more respectful of our planet.
Sometimes technology and innovation seem like things that only happen on our computer screens, but projects like this remind us that data and Artificial Intelligence can be used to clean our rivers, protect our oceans, and care for our health.
What is the Tex4Clear project?
Tex4Clear, whose full name is Textile Innovation for the Sustainable Elimination of Emerging Contaminants, was born with a clear mission: to protect the environment and citizens’ health from high-concern contaminants generated by the textile industry. Specifically, the project focuses on combating two very critical fronts: micro(nano)plastics (MNPs) and perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (known as PFAS).
To achieve this, Tex4Clear applies a comprehensive approach based on ecodesign (Safe and Sustainable by Design). This ranges from redesigning textile finishes to eliminate PFAS at the source to developing advanced biofiltration technologies, biodetection with artificial intelligence, and intelligent industrial water purification systems.
Who is funding this initiative?
This important research project has been granted through the CDTI (Center for Technological Development and Innovation), an agency dependent on the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Likewise, the initiative is co-funded by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) of the NextGenerationEU funds, within the framework of the Innterconecta STEP program.
Who is part of this project’s consortium?
To tackle such a multidisciplinary and complex challenge, a top-tier consortium has been formed, consisting of five highly specialized companies and three benchmark technology centers:
- Laurentia Technologies: Project leader, specialized in the development of nanomaterials and advanced functional coatings.
- Labaqua: Expert company in environmental analysis, comprehensive water cycle management, and the development of monitoring technologies.
- Darwin Bioprocessing Excellence: Specialists in bioprospecting and biotechnological solutions based on microorganisms for polymer biodegradation.
- Luce IT: Experts in digital transformation, advanced analytics, Big Data, and artificial intelligence, in charge of developing predictive models and hydrodynamic simulation.
- Geisa: Manufacturer of knitted and 3D technical fabrics with a long track record in sustainable dyeing and finishing processes.
- Technology Centers: The consortium is completed with the research support and capabilities of ITENE, AITEX, and ITCL.
